Our History
Counsel Trust Company was founded in January 2002 by Edward S. Crooks and Brian D. Selby of ECA Investment Group, a well-established investment consulting firm started in 1986. Counsel Trust fulfills multiple objectives benefiting clients: the ability to offer private investment funds and other efficient asset pooling arrangements; estate planning and fiduciary services; and a more comprehensive, less costly investment consulting product.
Counsel Trust is a Pennsylvania state chartered trust company providing a full range of custodial, trust, and fiduciary services to clients.
Since its founding, Counsel Trust has grown to approximately $400 million in traditional (core) trust and investment assets and over $8 billion in institutional assets.
A chronology of important events:
- January 2002: Counsel Trust opened for business.
- 2004: Counsel partnered with its first institutional client, Mid Atlantic Trust Company (MATC), to provide directed trustee services. MATC offers a trading and investment platform to 401k plans located throughout the U.S. Assets have grown to over $8 billion.
- 2007: Counsel Trust moved across the street to its current location, having outgrown its previous space.
